An Eye Lift or Blepharoplasty is performed on patients with excess upper and/or lower eyelid skin, and subcutaneous eyelid fat. These patients exhibit persistent puffiness and wrinkling. With other patients their delicate eyelid tissue has lost collagen and will manifest as a tired older appearance. Patients who decide on the procedure may already have tried non-surgical cosmetic solutions with limited success.

Our patients have 3 variants to choose from: upper eyelift, lower eyelift, and double eyelid blepharoplasty.

The procedure is quite routine. Incisions are made on the eyelids to expose the fatty tissue underneath. Excess fatty tissue is removed while there is also a tightening of the skin to produce a flatter more youthful look.

Incisions are hidden in the natural skin folds or lash line of the eyelids and are nearly invisible during healing and thereafter. In some cases with surgery of the lower eyelids, an incision is made on the underside so it is completely hidden during recovery.

Blepharoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, depending on the amount of reconstruction needed, the patient’s preference, and health. The procedure lasts from 1 to 2 hours

Post surgery recovery will be accompanied by some bruising, swelling and slight discomfort, usually managed with mild analgesics. Swelling typically subsides within a few days after surgery. When sutures are removed the patient can begin use of a concealer. Full recovery will require about 6 weeks.
